Morning Duas in Islam | Start Your Day with Blessings and Protection
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
(In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful)
Morning is a spiritually significant time in Islam. It marks the start of a new day — a new chance to gain Allah’s pleasure, ask for His help, and protect oneself from harm. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
"O Allah, bless my Ummah in their early mornings."
(Tirmidhi)
This hadith highlights that there is blessing (barakah) in the early hours of the day. Engaging in morning prayers, adhkar (remembrances), and duas sets the tone for a spiritually productive and protected day.
The Qur'an commands believers to remember Allah in the morning:
“And glorify the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting.”
(Surah Qaf, 50:39)
This verse encourages us to start our day with remembrance of Allah, even before sunrise.
Morning Supplication Upon Waking Up
Alhamdu lillaahil-lathee ‘ahyaanaa ba’da maa amaatanaa wa ilayhin-nushoor.
All praise is for Allah who gave us life after causing us to die (sleep), and to Him is the resurrection.
This dua reminds us of the temporary death of sleep and Allah’s power to give life. It is also a reminder of the Day of Resurrection.
Comprehensive Morning Protection Dua
Allahumma inni as’aluka khayra haadha al-yawm: fathahu wa nasrahu wa noorahu wa barakatahu wa hudaahu.
O Allah! I ask You for the goodness of this day, its victory, its help, its light, its blessings, and its guidance.
This beautiful dua is a complete spiritual request for everything good the day has to offer.
O Allah, make this morning a morning of goodness, blessings, victory, and mercy for me and for the Ummah of Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Morning Azkar from the Sunnah
Here are some recommended morning adhkar that the Prophet ﷺ used to recite regularly:
- Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, Surah An-Naas
Recite 3 times each in the morning and evening for protection from every harm.
- Ayat Al-Kursi (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255)
“Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence...”
- The full phrase you're referring to is:
"Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu, lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-ḥamdu wa huwa ʿalā kulli shay’in qadīr."
“There is no god but Allah, He is alone, without partner. His is the dominion, and His is the praise, and He has power over all things.”
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Whoever says:
Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu, lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-ḥamdu wa huwa ʿalā kulli shay’in qadīr,
100 times in a day,
will get the reward of freeing 10 slaves,
100 good deeds will be recorded for him,
100 sins will be erased,
and he will be protected from the devil that day until evening.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)
When to Recite:
-
After Fajr and Maghrib
-
Throughout the day for dhikr and spiritual protection
A simple yet profoundly rewarding phrase.
Morning Tasbeeh (Glorifications)
Here are some simple, high-reward tasbeeh you can repeat after Fajr or during the morning:
1. The phrase:
"SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi, SubhanAllahil Azim"
“Glory is to Allah and praise is to Him, glory is to Allah the Almighty.”
This dhikr is very beloved to Allah, as mentioned in the following Hadith:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“There are two phrases that are light on the tongue, heavy on the scale, and beloved to the Most Merciful:*‘SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi, SubhanAllahil Azim’.”
— (Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)
Benefits:
-
Easy to say, yet carry immense reward.
-
Demonstrates glorification and praise of Allah’s perfection and greatness.
-
Can be recited anytime throughout the day.
You can repeat it regularly as part of your daily dhikr for spiritual peace and reward.
Recite 100 times.
2. The phrase "Astaghfirullah Rabbi min kulli dhambin wa atubu ilayh" (Arabic: أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ رَبِّي مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ) translates to:
“I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, from every sin, and I turn to Him in repentance.”
This is a powerful du'a (supplication) for seeking forgiveness and showing sincere repentance. It is recommended to say it frequently, especially after committing a sin or when seeking to draw closer to Allah.
3. The phrases "Alhamdulillah," "SubhanAllah," and "Allahu Akbar" are among the most frequently recited dhikr (remembrances) in Islam. Here's a brief explanation of each:
1. Alhamdulillah (الحمد لله)
Meaning: "All praise is due to Allah."
Used to express gratitude for Allah’s blessings.
2. SubhanAllah (سبحان الله)
Meaning: "Glory be to Allah."
Used to declare the perfection and holiness of Allah, free from any imperfection.
3. Allahu Akbar (الله أكبر)
Meaning: "Allah is the Greatest."
Used to affirm that nothing is greater or more powerful than Allah.
These three are often recited together, especially after prayers or as part of daily remembrance. In a Hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ recommended saying them 33 times each after every obligatory prayer:
SubhanAllah ×33
Alhamdulillah ×33
Allahu Akbar ×34 (or ×33 in some narrations)
This practice brings immense reward and strengthens a believer’s connection with Allah.
