La Hawla Wala Quwwata Illa Billah – Meaning, Benefits & Power
"Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh" translates to "There is no power and no strength except with Allah." This powerful Arabic phrase expresses a deep sense of submission and reliance upon Allah alone. It means that human beings have no ability to change their condition or face life’s challenges without the will and help of Allah. The word "ḥawl" refers to the ability to move or change, and "quwwah" refers to strength or power. Together, the phrase acknowledges that all control, energy, and capability come solely from Allah, not from ourselves or any other source. It is often recited during times of hardship, difficulty, or helplessness, serving as a reminder that we are not alone and that divine assistance is always available.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described this phrase as one of the treasures of Paradise, highlighting its great reward and spiritual value. Saying it brings peace to the heart, strengthens faith, and encourages patience and trust in Allah’s wisdom and mercy.
Arabic:
لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ
English Translation:
"There is no power and no strength except with Allah."
This phrase expresses complete reliance on Allah, acknowledging that all strength, ability, and willpower come only from Him.
Benefits of Saying “Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh”:
1. A Treasure from Paradise
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
> “Shall I not tell you of a phrase which is one of the treasures of Paradise? It is: لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ”

2. Helps in Distress and Hardship
This phrase is a source of inner peace and spiritual strength during times of difficulty, anxiety, or helplessness.
3. Increases Tawakkul (Trust in Allah)
It reminds the believer that all power lies with Allah and encourages sincere reliance upon Him
4. Protection Against Shaitan (Satan)
